S is for slime! Happy Halloween!

Our letter of the week is S so today we made slime. There are several different recipes online so I just picked one. You need Borax (1 tsp), Water (1and 1/2 cups), a bottle of glue (we used clear) and food coloring- glitter is also optional. We mixed 1 cup of water with the Borax in one container, and a half a cup of water, glue, green food coloring (4 drops) and green glitter in the other container. Then we dumped the Borax solution into the green glue solution and mixed with our hands to get green glittery slime. The kids said the slime was "cold," "slippery," "gooey," and "gluey."

*I will update this site over the weekend with more of our "S" activities from this week.
*Picture day is tomorrow, Lending Library books are also due back tomorrow.

Have a great night! If you are trick or treating stay safe!

Halloween & School Closings

Here's the deal with Halloween.....the kids are not allowed to wear costumes at school. We are also not allowed to have candy and treats. If you would like to send in a healthy snack for Halloween that is fine. I am hoping to get a kid-friendly Halloween movie and some popcorn for the kids. We will also make slime (glue, water, borax, and food coloring) on that day, since our letter this week is S.

School Closings/Delays- I was told that you can receive alerts from Albany City Schools when there is a closing, delay, or early dismissal.  Click on the link below, fill out the necessary information, and you will receive a text or email notifying you of closings, delays or early dismissals. I did this last night and received a text and email this morning that school was closed.

Everyone stay safe and see you soon!

How to make a Jack O' Lantern

Today we decided to use the pumpkin that we already cut open and took the pulp out of to make a Jack O' Lantern. We also wrote down the steps we took to create it.

We planned the face- this was a great way to review the shapes that we have learned

Ta-da! We used a box of LED tealights to light up our Jack O' Lantern

*FYI- School policy is that we are not allowed to hand out candy or dress up on Halloween in case anyone was wondering.

Have a great weekend everyone!

P is for pumpkin! L is for the rest of the leaves pictures I took last week.

This week we are learning about letter Pp and the sound it makes. We have been learning a lot about pumpkins. We have talked about where they grow and how (seed, sprout, vine/leaves, flower, green pumpkin, orange pumpkin), and what we can do with pumpkins (make a scarecrow, pumpkin pie, jack o'lanterns). On Tuesday we made pumpkin pie scented playdough as a class and today we cut open a pumpkin and got to feel around inside. Each friend took out some seeds that we will be using for an activity tomorrow.

Science Center- Investigating leaves, pine cones, small pumpkins and gourds using magnifying glasses, a scale, and tongs.

 Pumpkin Pie Playdough

Feeling the inside of a pumpkin and collecting seeds
Student reactions of feeling the inside of a pumpkin: "Nasty!" "Wet""Gooey""Cold"

We read the story Leaf Man and then made our own leaf men. *These might not make it home since they will be all crunchy and will probably fall apart soon.

Block Center- 2 friends decided to make laptop computers out of waffle blocks. Very creative!

Next week we will be doing letter Ss for spiders and spider webs, skeletons, and we will make slime!

*I am still trying to schedule parent conferences on November 16th which is a half day of school with dismissal at 12:00. Children receiving services from Beginnings will not have conferences on Nov. 16th since Ms. Kennedy will not be available. We will contact you to set up a time to meet.
